#1 Improving Your Diet

Just like most parts of your body, what you eat has a direct effect on it. Your eyes are the same; what you consume will have a direct impact on the quality of your vision. Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and vitamins E and C fight off macular degeneration, cataract issues, and lowers type 2 diabetes, which is the leading cause of blindness in adults. So it is best to improve your diet by eating a lot of green leafy vegetables (spinach, kale, and collards), fish, eggs, nuts, beans, oranges and other fruits. 

#2 Wear Sunglasses

High levels of UV exposure can be damaging to your eyes, resulting in higher chances of macular degeneration and cataract damage. Wearing sunglasses is, therefore, key to your eyes, so make sure that you take the time to find the right pair for you – especially if you have prescription glasses. At the same time, even if you wear multifocal 1-day Acuvue contact lenses, you should wear sunglasses

#3 Take A Break From Screens

It can be hard to take a break from looking at a computer screen all day (especially if it’s part of your job). However, staring at them for too long can strain your eyes. Take a break every 20 minutes or so to rest your eyes. If you are experiencing straining, make sure that you take the time to time to visit an optometrist. If you work in an industry that makes your eyes vulnerable to hazardous or airborne materials, you must wear appropriate safety gear. Protective masks and goggles can be a lifesaver for your eyes. Not wearing it can be risk your eyes being exposed to injuries in the workplace and developing long-term eye conditions. As a side note: if you play contact sports, it is also advisable to wear eye protection. Lots of accidents happen in sports, so getting protection is vital. 

#5 Schedule Consistent Eye Exams At Your Optometry 

You can’t improve your eye’s health unless you visit an expert. It is therefore wise that you schedule an eye exam twice a year with your optometrist. With a comprehensive test that includes scanning your vision, your retinas, checking your alignment and testing your depth perception, the optometrist may be able to spot any eye diseases or conditions you could have or are developing. You’ll take a proactive step to ensure that your eyes are healthy, and if you need any adjustments or prescriptions, the optometrist can put you on the path to improving your eye health.
