If you have ever lived in a major city, then probably you must have had small bedroom woes. It seems like your options come down to squeezing in a bed and if you’re lucky, a nightstand, but there are ways to pack plenty of style into your limited space.
If you think that you don’t have enough space to work with, you’re in the right place. I have rounded up some lovely small bedroom ideas for you.
While modern and luxurious design ideas often tell you to have a sitting area, small office, or a king size bed in your bedroom, but don’t forget that a bedroom’s main function is a place to rest and recharge. In fact, your small bedroom should be a blessing for a better night’s sleep. It is recommended that you keep stimulating activities and distractions like TV, internet and mobile phones out of the bedroom as they can disrupt the sleeping. The less there is to do in your bedroom, the more and better sleep you get.
Now let’s get down to the ideas.
Here are some small bedroom ideas and tips to help you create a stylish bedroom space.
Colour Scheme Should be Light and Bright
The colour white is an expansive and practical choice for a small bedroom as it keeps the space from looking boxed in. Using white or lighter colours combats the absence of large wall space or windows to brighten up space. However, I don’t think I can sleep in all white room. To keep your small bedroom from feeling cold or void of personality, layer with different textures and white-on-white patterns for drama. A little pop of colour in the bedroom would look great.

Push the Bed Against the Corner
Most bedroom styles feature the bed by centring it on the wall. However, limited spaces call for deviation for this. If you want to maximize the floor space, tuck your bed up against a wall or corner. The effect will create a sleeping area that feels cosier. If this setting feels too much like a college dorm, you can add bed heads panels to create a finished, designer look to a bedroom.
Minimalist is The Style Trend
Add space to your bedroom by paring it down to your favourite essentials. The focus of the bedroom is the bed, so keep accessories and furniture pieces to a minimum. However, you need some storage as well, you can use sleek, contemporary built-ins for it. Built-ins maximize storage while giving an illusion like they’re not even there. A good built-in around your bed creates a cosy sleeping nook while adding plenty of storage.
Create the Illusion of Space
You can create illusion of a bigger room by hanging curtains as close to the ceiling as possible, it will bring the eye up. A point to be noted here is that when picking curtains it is good to match the fabric to the wall colour. It’s modern and can be nice in a smaller space because your eye won’t be distracted by contrasting colours. Mirrors are another item that can expand a small bedroom by creating the illusion of a bigger room. Position a mirror as such that it reflects the light of a window. This will also add up the natural light in your room.
Add Storage Under the Bed
If you are in the market to buy a new bed, consider the ones that have drawers underneath for extra storage. If space is so limited that drawers may not open easily, you can use decorative bins under your bed for additional storage. I love to use milk crates and other woven baskets as they look great.
Resist the Bulky Bed Frame
A few inches of extra space can be critical in a small bedroom. If you have a footboard-style bed frame, then consider replacing it with a simple modern bed head to finish the look of your bed. You can opt for bed heads made or eco-friendly material or go for upholstered or velvet ones. You can research online for the design ideas at websites selling furniture such as thefamilylovetree or Pinterest.
