5g

5G is the fifth generation of mobile internet connectivity, which promises to provide faster data for downloading (even from social medias using tools like mixcloud to mp3 converter, soundcloud downloader, etc) and uploading. 5G promises to offer faster data by using much shorter waves and having towers strictly available to each other to have more comprehensive coverage and more stable connections throughout the connected devices.

5G enables us to everything smarter and faster, be it virtual reality or intelligent glasses featuring augmented reality. 5G can be used for search and rescue missions carried out by millions of drones. The majority of users are excited about this technological advance that virtually eliminates buffering or ‘page loading’ issues.

5G offers an estimated 10 Gbps broadband speed, a platform enabling services for vertical marks and uniting wireless, wireline and satellite services under a standard structure. The dominant player for providing a 5G network to countries is Huawei Technology.

5G has been hitting country by the state like a wave, and few countries have been an active part of this wave. South Korea, Germany, France, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand have been an active participant of the 5G wave rolled out by Huawei and have run tests all across the country which are succeeding as of yet. Countries such as Australia, New Zealand, The United Kingdom, and Canada all have been weighing their options against the tech Giant Huawei providing 5G after the United States of America has officially banned Huawei.

Backstory About 5G

United States of America fears that due to the closeness of the tech giant with Chinese Government, the equipment used for rolling out 5G will be used to spy on the country and companies present in the market even though the company in June 2019 has agreed to sign a no-spy deal with the US Government. The United States of America, by using its power, has been trying to get Huawei out of the market all around the world, but to no avail.

All the countries such as The Netherlands have been avoiding the reasons forced upon by the United States of America, to go ahead with the rollout for 5G even though it might only be a test run. Russia has already signed a deal with Huawei during a visit to the country by the Chinese President. The African continent has not been at the forefront of early 5G adoption, but the advanced economies in the continent might prove to be a fertile market.

India’s stake with 5G is very high because of the large size of the market and the ongoing digitization efforts. The Indian market can achieve a revenue target of $350-$400 billion by 2025 for the Information and Communications Technology Sector. India, however, is still at the stage

of heated discussions regarding the rollout of 5G all over the country.

Indian Government is of the view that 5G should be implemented in the country only by excluding Chinese players. Due to the strained relations between China and India, a high-level committee on 5G is of the view that the Indian Government should prepare pros and cons before going along with the tech giants plans. The Indian Government is currently in a fix over the diplomatic situation that might arise in taking a call on whether Huawei will be allowed to access the sprawling opportunity that India presents as a market.

The Chinese Government is backing Huawei’s demand fully that it should be allowed to take part in the 5G rollout in the Indian market, which has put the Government in a tricky spot. The Chinese Government, while supporting Huawei, has been indirectly asserting that the Chinese option for the 5G rollout would be the best option available.

The country, however, needs to build security expertise as telecom operators do not have depth on the subject yet. The Department of telecom should take an urgent decision regarding 5G field trials with adequate safeguards, with or without Chinese vendors. While discussions are still going on the subject of 5G rollout by the Chinese tech giant, Samsung has launched the Galaxy S10 in the Indian market is 5G compatible, and has offered to lend the country its 5G infrastructure.

Researchers, physicists, biologists, and physicians argue that there is safety, health, environmental, security, privacy, and energy use issues. These issues need to be addressed before the potential rollout of the 5G network all over the world. This makes 5G not only a threat to the security of people as well as their privacy but is also a threat to their health. Due to its functioning through shorter waves than that of the previous generation network speeds namely, 4G by having various network towers or nowadays boxes installed in every nick and corner of the city to provide fast network connectivity and bandwidth.

A 4G tower used to serve an entire neighborhood, whereas 5G towers which are installed at dramatically close distance, increase the risks that come with excessive radiation exposure. These network tower/ boxes cause radiation which is harmful to the body, in such a way man can only imagine. Thus, educating yourself about the latest risks is a must. The various health issues caused due to exposure of radiation are:

  • Tumors in the lungs;
  • Lymphoma;
  • An increased risk of breast cancer;
  • Miscarriage, etc.

How to Protect Yourself From 5G?

There are various ways to protect yourself from the radiation, namely:

  • By keeping your 5G router as far away as possible from the room;
  • Turn off your 5G router while you are sleeping;
  • Use your phone with a hands-free device like Google Home, etc.

Conclusion

5G, in its entirety, has not rolled out all over the world, yet. There are various discussions about the fate of the network by the most potent Governments all around the world. 5G if ever rolled out in India would need to have a secure plan in place to protect the privacy of the citizens who opt for the plan soon.
