CAPF or the Central Armed Police Forces Examination is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) annually. This examination is conducted to recruit Assistant Commandant in the Armed Forces. Lakhs of aspirants from across India take this national-level examination though available seats are only a few hundred. As competition is very tough, the aspiring candidates need to know more about the examination pattern, cut-off marks, and other important information about the CAPF examination in detail. For the UPSC CAPF 2022 examination, the total number of vacancies is 206. According to the government policies, reservations will be there. The 10% of seats are reserved for the Ex-servicemen. In case the seats reserved for the Ex-servicemen are not filled, they can be given to the candidates who belong to the non-servicemen category. 

Security forces that get candidates from the CAPF exam

Successful candidates can get enrolled into any of the below-mentioned security forces:

  • BSF (Border Security Force)
  • ITBP (Indo Tibetan Police Force)
  • CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force)
  • SSB (Shastra Seema Bal)
  • CISF (Central Industrial Security Force)
  • NSF ( National Security Guard)
  • AR(Assam Rifles)

The Eligibility of the candidates for the CAPF exam

Nationality of the candidate:

The candidate must be a citizen of India/a subject of Bhutan/a subject of Nepal/ a Tibetan refugee who migrated to India before 1st January 1962 and have settled in India permanently/ a person having Indian origin and have migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, or East African countries and have settled in India permanently.

Gender

 Both males and females can take the CAPF exam.

Educational Qualification

The applicant must have a degree from any university that is recognized by the government. Those who are appearing in their final year of graduation are eligible to apply for this post.

Age Limit

The candidates should be at least 20 years of age and the maximum age limit is 25. The SC/ST category gets an age relaxation of 5 years and the OBC candidates get an age relaxation of 3 years. 

The Selection Process of the CAPF exam

The CAPF examination is conducted in four stages to select the right candidates.  

  • The written exam
  • Test for physical standards/ physical efficiency
  • Medical tests
  • Interview/personality tests

The written examination consists of two papers-paper-I and paper-II. 

Paper-I- This paper is for 2 hours and the total marks are 250. This paper has questions about General intelligence and ability. One-third of marks get deducted for the wrong answer. 

Paper-II- The subjects of this paper are general studies, comprehension, and essay writing. The total marks for this paper are 200 and the duration is of 3 hours.

Cut-off marks of CAPF exam

Those candidates who secure minimum cut-off marks from the written exam (Paper-1 and Paper-2) are eligible to go to the next stages. The cut-off marks of the written stage are out of 450 (250 in paper-I and 200 in paper-II). The final selection cut-off marks are given out of 600 marks (450 for the written exam and 150 for the personality/ Interview test). After the interview/ Personality Test, a merit list is published and the successful candidates are called for training. The candidates must get at least 25% in the Paper-II of the written examination to reach the next stage. The factors that affect the cut off marks for the CAPF exam are the following:
